Have you upgraded your Samsung Galaxy Ace to the latest Gingerbread edition of Android operating system? If not, then you are missing out on some great performance benefits by upgrading Gingerbread on your Smartphone.
I would not be telling you the procedure to upgrade the operating system but I would gladly provide you the link about how to do it yourself. The procedure is super easy and works like a charm. You won’t be able to look at your Samsung Galaxy Ace without being amazed and I can guarantee that!
Follow through the article to get a glimpse of Samsung Galaxy Ace Gingerbread, alright?
Some helpful articles on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830!
- How to install Roboto Font on Samsung Galaxy Ace?
Did you enjoy Android 4.0 keynote with Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus? I hope you did. One of the key points in the keynote was the new Roboto font. - How to play OGM and MKV Video files on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 or any other Android Smartphone?
I am sure that you hate converting videos from one format to another when you want them to play as quickly as you downloaded them from the internet. - BSNL 3G Review - On Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830
After trying out 3G service from Tata Docomo and partially satisfied with it, I decided to try out BSNL’s 3G service.
- First thing that you will notice is how quickly the phone will boot up when you have upgraded the operating system.
- Don’t press the power button too long. Just count to three seconds in your mind and leave it. You will see that the phone picks up the start-up signal in just a matter of 3 seconds.
- After Galaxy Ace has started, you will few changes in your screen. For some reason, it would look better than before and the dashboard will become slightly gray in colour.
- The battery sign will no longer be in horizontal, it will be in vertical manner. The icons related to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, Vibration and Auto Rotation, will become green when clicked and that is the new theme friends with Gingerbread.
- Other things that would be noticeable are the speed, response time of apps and better RAM memory distribution. I know that many folks have said that Gingerbread is eating more RAM in Samsung Galaxy Ace after upgrading, but at least that is not the case with me. The RAM is now sufficiently available for other apps that run in background while I am working on other apps.
- The camera is working really fine and the videos can now be saved in MP4 format without a hitch.
- The video playback support has been greatly increased and Quadrant Standard app tells me that now my Galaxy Ace is better than HTC Desire, Nexus One and Samsung Galaxy S with an score of 986 and it is very respectable score considering the price range of this Smartphone.
- The phone has become quick with multi-tasking and when you type quickly, the characters are updated quicker than before.
- All in all, Samsung Galaxy Ace has become better than before because of Android 2.3.4 upgrade, also known as, Gingerbread.
Get Gingerbread Keyboard!
How to get gingerbread keyboard on Samsung Galaxy Ace?
- The keyboard of Galaxy Ace is still intact and works the same. I am not saying that it is bad or anything. I am just saying that the black keyboard looked awesome when I saw in Gingerbread ready Smartphones.
- So, how do you get it? Well, the good news is that apps work really fine with Ace after upgrading. The crashing of apps (which is a little bit problem with operating system too) is nearly gone and the support and quality is greatly increased.
- Open Android Market on your pc or Galaxy Ace. Type Gingerbread Keyboard in the search field and it will return you some relevant results.
- Install Keyboard from Android 2.3 by Steven Lin. Look at the screenshot below for clearance.
Select your Gingerbread Theme!
Click thumbnail to view full-size- As you can see, the app is free to install. When you are done installing. You will see option to activate it in Settings> Locale and text> Scroll down to last and you will see Gingerbread Keyboard. Check the box to activate it.
- You can go through the Gingerbread Keyboard settings and familiarize with all the options that it offers or you can use it directly.
- When you are to type something, just after this activation. Tap on the typing field for a little longer till you see a pop-up with Input Method. Select it and it will present you available keyboards. Select Gingerbread keyboard and you are done.
- You will not have to change it every time. This change will make it permanent for every application until you change it again with this same method in the previous keyboard, say Samsung Default Keyboard.
How to get Gingerbread theme on Samsung Galaxy Ace?
- To get a feeling that you are closer to Gingerbread a bit more. You can install Gingerbread theme.
- You know that Nexus S theme with lights coming from left, right, top and bottom. It is the Nexus live wallpaper that will motivate you few steps further into Gingerbread goodness.
- You can install Nexus Revamped Live Wallpaper app and it will give you an amazing feeling of being even more close to Gingerbread (if that means anything to you).

- Gingerbread 2.3.5 XWKS9 Update for Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830 | Android Advices
This article will help users of Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830 to upgrade their firmware to XWKS9 which is the latest version of Android firmware.
- After you have installed the app. Tap the main screen long enough and select Wallpapers from the popup window. Select Live Wallpapers from the next window and you will see your live wallpaper that you have installed just now.
- Select it and select Set Wallpaper after it satisfies you with the awesome background with live LED lights.
- I personally like the Live Wallpaper from Gingerbread because it has a nice soft background and if you like to have few apps on the home screen then the background gives a really smooth 3-D feeling.
So, Time to wrap it up!
I believe that it is time to wrap it up because I have already told you what I wanted to. The latest version that you can download and install is Android 2.3.4 for Samsung Galaxy Ace.
To verify the version, head over to Settings> About Phone> Scroll down to see Android Version: 2.3.4, Build Number: Gingerbread.DDKQ5, etc.
This is it for this article. I hope it will help you to make the decision of upgrading the device yourself. Upgrading doesn’t violate the warranty (if you are scared of it) and at least for me, the Gingerbread version is far more stable than Froyo.

do i face any problems if i root my mobile (Ace)
It may brick if anything goes wrong. Other than that, rooting is fine and lets you enable more goodies that some apps require :)
is there any problems if i root my mobile...
Ok, Thank you...
there are some file managers available that allow easy renaming of files and folders but renaming app is not possible bcz you can't open the jump up menu by tapping it for a while.
An app tapped for a while in Menu Page will make it appear on the Home Screen and when you tap it for a while on Home Screen, you would see the option to drag it down and remove it from the Home Screen.
So you see, renaming apps is still not possible.
is there any software available in market to rename the apps...
You can't rename the app Karan. Renaming is not supported in Galaxy Ace Gingerbread 2.3.5 yet.
Hello kksonakiya...
how to rename the app...
Anytime Nani. :) Enjoy your smartphone. :)
Hi kksonakiya,
Thanks for helping me foa a week......
Really thanks alot......
I will disturb when i found some issues.....Till then enjoy....
Hi Nani, no problem. :)
1. I use Lookout antivirus for Galaxy Ace and so far, it is working nice. I can't be certain if it will recognize any virus or not. However, you can scan your memory card for possible viruses with the help of a desktop (computer) antivirus program.
It would be actually the best option to check at least the memory card.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout&
2. I found Announcify to be a great "say Caller ID app" because it offers many features and yet, it is very easy to use.
I've tried it and I am sure you'll love it. :)
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.mailboxe?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm9yZy5tYWlsYm94ZXIuc2F5bXluYW1lIl0.
Hi kksonakiya....
Thanks a lot for helping me for lot of problems...
1. I think virus is attacked to my phone. Because i am deleting some empty folders from my phone after some the files are appearing again. Due to this i am thinking that
some virus is attacked to my phone. Already AVG is present in my phone but i scanned and i did not find any virus.
Is there any better antivirus or i need to format and re install the all the applications again.
2. Finally is there any software which will say who is calling.....
No problem Nani, I am not feeling bad or anything. I am actually glad that I am able to help you with some information. This is why I write hubs. :)
1. Yes, Samsung is now giving away this version officially. When you connect your phone via Kies, it should detect this version for update. Otherwise, it may take some time to arrive in your country (as I don't know your country, I can't be certain).
You can actually contact Samsung Customer Care and ask them if the latest Gingerbread update is 2.3.4 or 2.3.5?
http://androidadvices.com/galaxy-ace-official-235-
2. The problem seems to be with the phone. Both internet and calls are based on different frequencies so that we can access the internet and calls at the same time.
For example, you can run a download in the background and can answer a call at the same time.
However, I wouldn't be surprised if the problem occurred because of some faulty network because they keep updating frequencies and sometimes, it overlaps and can cause such problems.
I am actually sad to know that many people are facing problems with their Galaxy Ace. I am on the other hand, enjoying this smartphone to the fullest. I have accepted all the short comings and am satisfied for the price it came with. :)
Hi kksonakiya,
1. Is it an official version from samsung. So that i can go to the store and i can update 2.3.4 to 2.3.5.
2. I have one more question.Please don't feel bad....
When i am using internet 2G i am not able to receive any calls or msgs from others....
Is it a phone problem or network depends....
Hi Nani, i can see that you don't have that many applications to slow down your phone. You have sufficient RAM available and you have plenty of space in your card.
Unfortunately, you cannot extend the RAM to 512 bcz it is not possible in Smartphone yet.
You can try the new upgrade, i.e. 2.3.5 and see if it makes your phone faster, because other than that there is nothing that can be done.
Try upgrading the phone further Nani.
P.S. - Have you checked the phone for possible viruses? Because that is the next logical reason behind slow operations.
Thanks kksonakiya........
1. I have checked 200/278MB means still 78 mb of ram is free....
2. 120/180MB internal memory means 60MB internal memory is free
3. 2gb/7/gb external memory means still 5gb is free
This is the total information.....
The applications i have installed:
1. Mobo task killer
2. GMAIL
3. Face book
4. Audio manager
5. Application manager
6. Ngpay
7. UC browser
8. Zedge
9. Imobile
10. Tektrack
11. Avg anti virus
12. You tube
13. Ebuddy
14. G-Whizz
15. Dolphin Browser
16. ESPN cricinfo
17. Best wall papers
18. News hunt
19. Google maps
Please help me is there any application which is making my phone slow......
Is there any possible way to extend the RAM to 256 to 512
Thanks in advance from NANI.....
Hi there Nani, Tap the Home Screen button for a little while till you see a pop-up with Recent apps and Task Manager button.
Tap Task Manager and tap RAM tab to see how much RAM you have left.
P.S. - you can clear RAM to speed up your phone, but keep in mind that clearing RAM closes some applications and may close the ones that are opened as well.
Hi kksonakiya,
I very poor regarding the mobiles,
How to check how much RAM is occupied.
If i update i will lose the warranty or not..
Thanks for the quick response....
Hi Nani, I've included the link from where you can upgrade your version to 2.3.5. Please do check it out (below the Update to 2.3.4 link).
2. If you face the network problem after the upgrade, you can use Scannify app to discover and connect to wi-fi network without any trouble.
You may choose Scannify Lite or Premium version. Please download it from Android Market only.
https://market.android.com/details?id=me.connectif
3. Having 8 GB memory doesn't make a smartphone faster Nani. Check if you have sufficient RAM left and internal memory is also not full.
Other than that, this phone actually seems slow once you operate some high-end phones, like Galaxy S ii. Even Galaxy R is faster than Galaxy Ace, so there is nothing that you can do.
However, you may try formatting the device and installing only those apps that you use. A lot of junk can also make your phone slower.
Plz reply to this comment and tell me if everything worked out or not.
Hi All,
1. I am using galaxy ace from last few months. I ma not able to connect to WIFI in my office...
But recently my frnd bought galaxy R and he is able to connect to WIFI in my office...
Only the difference is in my ACE the android version is : android 2.3.4 and my frnd is having android 2.3.5

3. I have 8GB memory card in it still my phone is very slow.

That's great Hope. Have fun! :)
internet running and everything is perfect now
I hope it will fine as well Hope. Also, it is possible to update it further. The latest build is Gingerbread 2.3.5 XWKS9 as of this moment. Here is a link from where you can get all the information about updating it further.
is it possible to update further than this
it is indeed fast now ,but am just working on intenet connection, which is giving problems. i plan to go to my subscriber today so that they can manually do it. we usually just sends a message and you receive installation message, but when when i install its only the MMS. hope everything wil b fine
Hi there Hope. No it is not necessary to go for DDKQ5. Actually, it was the latest Gingerbread version at the time I upgraded and wrote this article.
I also updated this article with the name of latest build, i.e. XXKPH and you said that you have already upgraded your phone with that, so there is no need to upgrade to an older version.
Have fun Hope! and i really wish that your experience turns out good unlike a lot of readers here. :)
i upgraded from 2.2.1 to 2.3.4 gingerbread.xxkph. is it necessary to go for DDKQ5, and how do you do that?
Anytime Jaz, anytime. :)
thank u so much dear friend...
Hi themespotter, glad to have your feedback. Yeah, Samsung is making great Smartphone. I am kind of disappointed with Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
They played us for a fool with Super-HD AMOLED display and rolled out Super AMOLED display.
But well, i must enjoy what i have in the shelves! :)
Thanks for the review. Samsung is putting out some great Android devices.
Glad to have you back again Jaz. I am afraid but you can do nothing about the temporary files.
At best, you can explore the internal memory with the help of a file explorer like Adao File Manager or Andro Xplorer and delete the folder or files that are no longer needed.
Be careful though, one slip of finger and the device may brick and I am not sure if re-flashing would help in this case or not.
App2Sd, isn't a lot of help either. You have to cut down the apps, that is the only real solution. :(
thnx alot for the comment....bt tell me hw come i delt temp files????? if u dnt mind plz tell me d steps....alrdy i hav app2sd applctn in ma mobile....
Hi there Jaz, I would like to tell you that many new apps now install themselves on the SD card by default if its developer provided the option. However, there is a little app for transferring setup files from Phone Memory to Sd card, if at all possible.
It is App2Sd and it is free of cost. It would also tell you if the applications are using Cache memory and you can then delete the temporary files and free up cache memory.
Also, don't get your hopes up too much. Galaxy Ace has only 150 MB of memory and you can't install nearly every app on the SD card.
Give this software a try and see if it solves your problem.
Hai I hav 1 dbt...me using 2.2 froyo....glxy ace...in ma phne, so many apps dirctly instld to phn memry...phn memry is vry less in galxy ace rite?? if d,files get instld in memry crd some temp files may stored in phone memry and the phone memry gettng low space...any idea abt hw to recvr d problm....i wnt to use so many apps thru my ace plz help me...me using 8 gb micro sd...around 4 gb is free nw. Bt so many apps dirctly get instaltion to phn memry...and d phne memry is sooo lesss.....plz help me...im unhappy with dat....
nice info
Anytime Mann. Good Luck to you. :)
Thanks kksonakiya !
Now, I going to do it...
Say good luck ...
Appreciate your quick responses.
Hi there Mann. If you fail to upgrade (some sort of usb problem, etc.) then your device can be bricked but there is absolutely nothing to worry because you can always re-flash your phone later on.
Keep in mind that your phone needs to be fully recharged so that the process doesn't terminate because of battery.
You cannot revert the changes because once the phone flashes with the new firmware, it readily writes the files on phone's memory that overwrites previous files. So, re-flashing is the only option.
It will delete all the apps from your phone and since the applications, installed on your memory card, isn't recognized by the new firmware, they would be worthless. You have to install all the apps once again and sync the phone with your Android Market's account.
What if I failed to upgrade? (just for precaution)
How to revert back the changes?
Is this process, delete all the app though these are present on memory card?
Hi there Mann. No this upgrade doesn't require Internet connection and yes, the zip has all required files.
However, you must know that to download and install your apps once again, you need an Internet connection. I am sure you already knew that. :)
Is this upgrade process needs internet connection?
or
Does zip has all required files?
ok Thank you...
I am afraid Karan, u can't do that. The home button isn't customizable. Wherever you are in your phone, when you press the Home Button, you will be brought back to the first home screen. sorry. :(
i want to change Home Physical button settings.
What do you want to change about that Karan?
To go to second and third screen, you just have to flick the screen to your right, i m sure you knew that already.
Also, you can't change the wallpaper separately. The wallpaper fills all the screen.
Please tell me what exactly would you like to change?
no not wallpaper, when i press home physical key it showing 1st page of home screen but i want to change to 2nd or 3rd page, how to do that..?
Hi Rehan, No we can't! Adobe doesn't support Flash in Galaxy Ace. it doesn't matter if it is upgraded or not. It is too much infuriating!
Even when some software tell you that Android 2.1 and up is necessary, they won't install on Galaxy Ace.
can we install adobe flash player after upgrading???
Hi there Karan. If you mean by How to change the wallpaper of Home screen then here is the procedure:
Tap blank space (without any apps) for a little long time till you feel a vibration and a menu will pop-out giving you option of Wallpapers. Tap it and you will have options to choose your wallpapers from different locations like Gallery, Live Wallpapers and Wallpaper Gallery.
Now tap on any one of these options and choose your Wallpaper.
To choose Lock Screen wallpaper, you need to go to Settings- Display- Wallpapers- Lock Screen Wallpaper.
Can u tell me how to change the home screen plz...
Not anymore RockSlo. If you want to invest your money in a smartphone that is cheap, yet amazing, go for Nokia Lumina 800, Windows Phone 7 based smartphone.
For Android based smartphone, Samsung Galaxy R would be nice and Blackberry Curve would be nice for Blackberry 7.1 as OS.
As far as iOS is considered, you already know that Apple iPhone 4S is the latest.
That is pretty much all. These are just my preferrences, you can look all the great smartphones at GSMArena.com. They are neatly categorized from company to company at the left sidebar. Give them a look. :)
PS - Thanks for dropping by.
is this phone worth buying?
There is no need to panic Rizzu. I am running this upgraded version for the last 2 months and I am enjoying it a lot. Just because it didn't work on your Ace, it doesn't mean it will harm the mobile set.
Please don't circulate false information. If you had a bad experience with Gingerbread, just say so.
Also, Samsung is providing this upgrade officially. If you have a problem regarding that, you must contact their support team. That is all I can say.
dont upgrade it will harm the mobile net is not working when i upgraded battery life cut just half after upgarading ...sorry plz dont upgrade ur galaxy ace....
Hi there Roger. It already is free. I have also included the link to the webpage where the procedure and the firmware file is located.
Give it a try.
Tell me how it went later friend. :)
PS - upgrading firmware is always and will always be free. you just have to download the firmware file from a good source and then flash your phone (which doesn't void your warranty by the way, unless otherwise mentioned).
Is there any way to download gingerbread 2.3.4 for free.
Hi there Tom, I'll give it a try. :) thanks.
I bought a "business Gold" battery from E-Bay, less than £10 Double the capacity of the old one ie, 2430 mAH lasts for ages!! Highly Recommended..
Hi there John Ogden. Finally, I have some support! I was beginning to wonder if Gingerbread turned out a Goodie just for me!!
Hi there John Williams, thanks for keeping this post updated with your comments. :) Highly appreciated. I am sorry the update didn't work out for you. Did you rolled back to Froyo?
I updated my firmware to gingerbread and its better and faster, brilliant thanks kksonakiya.
Battery life is anyway bad with Ace.Try ending all active apps by opening the task manager.
Me also updated my Galaxy ace. But it seems the battery is draining more fast now
Galaxy s plus or galaxy nexus or galaxy s2- screen size is important to me as well.Above 4 inches is not the first choice anyway.
I tried formatting as you said,Sonakiya, and now I have 148mb free space, but the problem remains.I dont know if it is something to do with the proximity sensor. The main delay is in the screen coming on.
Hi there John Williams. Glad to have your comment.
Have you tried formatting your phone, thus removing any unnecessary Froyo files from the phones?
I don't get it guys. My phone is faster than before and here, I am seeing complaints and frowns only.
Compared with another phone with froyo. Most functions are slower the most noticeable being the proximity sensor off time, ie.during a call if you remove the phone from your ear and wants to check something else like your phone book it takes a while longer for the screen to come on and also to cut the call after a call.
bullshit ....its same as froyo..even after upgrading..cant find any useful thing..jst my battery sign is vertical and green..hahaha...wat a upgrade...... :P
Thanks, kksonakiya. Very useful info.
That's great man. Now i m sure that u should go back to Froyo bcz i am too much confused here.
My phone is working fine my friend. Also, btw, heard about Galaxy Nexus? Any thoughts?
It's 1025 Sonakiya
If that is the case than u should do that John. However, before going through the trouble of downgrading Gingerbread, would you mind telling me your Quadrant Standard score? Mine is 1001 as of this moment.
I have about 73 Mb of internal disk and still all functions from unlocking onwards have slowed down and I am thinking of downgrading to Froyo.
No it doesn't John. I am using it myself. May be it is faster for me. Are you leaving enough disk space and internal space too? Because I always leave at least 20 Mb for internal disk space and 100 mb free for external memory card and it is working fine.
Tell me more about yours!
Upgrading to Gingerbread 2.3.4 slows down the phone functions of Galaxy Ace
No it does not. It is officially announced by Samsung for Galaxy Ace. You can upgrade the os without voiding your warranty.
hey does the updation void the warranty???
Thanks for commenting htodd.
Nice post..Thanks
I am afraid not Kumar. You will not be able to play high end games like nfs shift on the latest upgrade. I've tried it and it feels sluggish. However, old games like Angry Birds is much smoother than before.
You may want to stick with that! :(
Can we play high end games when upgraded to gingerbread
Me too tanx. It's fast and cool. In short "awesome!!"
I updated my ace to Gingerbread ...
its awosum .....
Well, thanks for commenting Kootheancheah. I am glad you liked it though you don't own Galaxy Ace. :)
Though I don't own a Samsung Galaxy Ace, I still enjoy reading your article. As the owner of SGS and someone who enjoys flashing new ROMs, I find this interesting .

kksonakiya 3 months ago
Hello Karan,
Well I have rooted my Galaxy Ace and it is still running fine. Give it a try and if you face problem, flash your phone with the latest version of Gingerbread. :)
