Nvidia still owns the crown for being the best graphics card choice and I should correct myself (and save) by saying that there were several options (apparently just one other) to choose among AMD graphics cards over Nvidia’s.
Anyway, Geforce GTX 550 TI is a mid-range graphics card and is definitely good choice for mainstream gamers, who play high-end games occasionally and don’t fall for hooplas of HD and hardcore gaming.
The best part of Nvidia GTX 550 TI is the price tag. It comes for only Rs.9500/- and is certainly affordable by many gamers.
So.., let’s discuss what GTX 550 TI brings for you as a mainstream performer.
Have a look at what this graphics card offers under its cool design and heat sink:
Geforce GTX 550 Ti specifications
As you can see, this graphics card is completely ready for any high-end game you throw at it. However, you should be careful in paring it with other hardware of your computer. Don’t think that the card alone is enough to let you gobble up every game or precisely, Crysis 2.
All major features are available with 3D surround, DirectX 11.0, optimum power consumption, etc.
Now, it is time to talk about its performance among big guys and see if it holds the promise even then.

• Just Cause 2
This game is filled with forces of nature (*wink*) and can definitely test your card’s capability to its fullest. The game offers forest areas, cars, streets, people, buildings, dynamic day-light situations, etc., in short, it is a great (if not perfect) game to test your card.
So, here’s how it scored.
Anti-aliasing On and Resolution: 1920X1080
Minimum: 38 FPS
Average – 41 FPS
Maximum – 56 FPS
Above benchmarking involves a two hours of intensive gameplay while blowing everything up. Graphics were beautiful and intense with good smoke rendering and water effects.
• Crysis 2
I don’t need to say anything about this game, do I? You must have see Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo and this benchmarking test is based on that too. Folks are saying that the demo didn’t fair quite well and need some extra improvement from EA and Crytek, still, it performed great on this card.
Anti-aliasing On and Resolution: 1920X1080
Minimum: 28 FPS (still quite playable, but some extra-fight scenes were taking lots of juice out of GTX 550 TI)
Average: 35 FPS
Maximum: 43 FPS
There was nothing to worry about while playing this game. However, since this game involves some very intensive Artificial Intelligence (AIs) characters, the screen was filled with lots and lots of action and amazing graphics. However, while playing with 3D on, the game stuttered and I had to shut it off and play like a normal mainstream gamer would.
So… if you want to play Crysis 2 on 3D with every single effect onboard, you should get an even better graphics card.
• The Saboteur
This game is like one of those war type games where you have to free several people and kill one tyrant. The game works great for some reason on highest settings without any lag and it is funny because it is also an open-world game. So… if you like The Saboteur then you sir are in for a treat with GTX 550 TI.
Resolution: 2048X1024
Minimum: 45 FPS
Average: 51 FPS
Maximum: 64 FPS
I told you… you were in for a treat.
• Metro 2033
Metro 2033 is one heck of a horror game after Dead Space 2 and would creep the heck out of a person when he/she plays in the right environment. Unfortunately, GTX 550 Ti wasn’t powerful enough to create that environment. Either it was game’s fault or the other, but game stuttered in some of the scariest places within the game. However, if it weren’t for the stuttering, I would not have been able to kill several enemies (*smile*). However, you might not want that with your game. So… get a better one to get some extra performance out of Metro 2033.
Resolution: 1920X1080 and Anti-aliasing OFF
Minimum: 18 FPS
Average: 40 FPS
Maximum: 49 FPS
So… this is it. I hope I chose challenging games and if you want to test the performance of your graphics card then these games would be great for you too (if not perfect).
