Hi there friends. I am sure that you want to make your Windows boot faster and you want to work as soon as you see the main desktop screen. But you can’t! Because some background programs still need to run before you can use your computer.
These background programs are start-up programs and some of them are essential while some of them are just bugging.
Actually, they don’t run without your permission but who gives them a lot of attention when the installation is going on and the “run on start-up” box is checked. These programs can make your Windows slow and in most cases, if you try to open a folder, a program or a file, your computer may hang till every single one of those programs start (including the one that you clicked).
However, there is still a good part of this. Let us say that you intentionally want to run a program for someone else, or you just want to remind about something to your colleague, friend or your family the next time they start the computer.
You don’t need to schedule a task for that (it can be done easily but the process goes through a bit of trouble), all you need is copying and pasting a shortcut.
This little guide will walk you through the insanely easy and quick process of running a program when your Windows boots so that it is readily available.
Here we go then:
- Locate the folder Startup. It doesn’t matter what is the version of your Windows (XP, Vista or Seven).
- It is usually available at C:\Users\KK\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
- The folder AppData is hidden by default so either you paste this address directly in Run Command or you can enable show hidden files and folder in Tools> Folder Options section of Windows Explorer (or any folder).
- You would see some programs that already have shortcuts there. If you want those programs to quit starting up. You can just delete their shortcuts and if you feel that they are necessary then leave them be.
- Now, in this folder (Startup folder), you need to copy and paste the shortcut of that file, folder or program that you want to run when the computer boots.
- This is not a trick, not a hack and nothing illegal. It is just a procedure by which all those fancy softwares start their own respective programs when your windows boots.
- You can use this way to remind someone about something or you can use your creativity and tell them it their birthday or something.
This way works great and you don’t need to work with any software or buy anything that you don’t want to.
However, I would like to point out that some of those softwares actually give you the liberty to start a file, folder or program to start at a scheduled time. The only problem is that, if the system is not turned ON at that time, they won’t run!
So, there you have it. I am sure that you can use your imagination and make some great use out of this little procedure. Thanks for going through it. Ciao.

Thanks for your kind words Seeker7. I am glad that you found it useful.:)
This is an excellent and very useful hub. Your instructions are well laid out and easy to follow. Most of us don't tinker about with our computer because we lack confidence and know-how, but your hub has been a great benefit. Many thanks for sharing.
