By

What do you do with an iPod anyway, huh? Listen to music and entertain yourself, right? Well, if you use playlists appropriately then you wouldn’t be having any trouble finding it and you’ll be able to enjoy your files even better than juggling around a messed up 120 GB of space.

What are you going to need?

  1. iTunes Software

A system, i.e. desktop or laptop (Windows based or Mac based).

What you need to do?

  • Procedure:

  • Connect your iPod with the USB cable.
  • iTunes will perform its duty.

  • Look in the leftmost pane; you will see several options like Music, Movies, etc.
  • Click on the plus (+) sign, which will let you add a new playlist.

  • Now name it as you desire. You should name the new playlist according to the songs it is going to hold. Rock, Jazz, Metal, etc. or anything specific, like romantic songs, dj songs, rap music, etc.
  • Now you have to add your songs from the complete bunch of songs to your playlist (that you have just created, so that you can access your songs with categories.

  • If you have thousands of songs and you are feeling timid, then you can perform a search (search bar is at the top). It’s a quick way and saves you some precious minutes.
  • You have to add a song or folder to iTunes before you can add it to your playlist. You see, creating playlist is just a way to let you play some particular category. However, when you just add or import some song in iTunes and add it to your iPod, iPhone or iPad. It goes right in the cloud and will only be categorize according to default options like Artist Name, Rating, Album, etc.

  • To add the file (song) to your playlist, you just have to drag it and it will be added. You don’t have to worry about the file being moved or even copied. It’s just like a shortcut. For example, when you use some programs to often, you right-click on it and create a shortcut on the desktop (in Windows). So, the desktop is the playlist here and the files are just shortcuts of original ones.
  • Even if you delete the file (song) from your playlist, it will still be available in the bunch of total songs (under Music). However, if you delete a song from there, then it will be removed from the bunch and from your playlists as well.

  • One last thing, you can add the same song in multiple playlist, in case it falls in them. Like DJ songs are also under Rap category, so if you want to create two playlist with DJ Songs and Rap, then you can add the same song in both of them.
  • There is even more to do, so if you like some extra advice and wide instructions, follow How to Categorize Music in iPod Classic 120 GB using Playlists?
