The Combo Graphics Card Thing
As you know that 2011’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is going to be the most anticipated electronics event of 2011, there will be many gadgets that will be released throughout the year.
One of them is Intel’s Sandy Bridge Processor in Core i5 and Core i7 section. You see, Intel has named them 2011’s processors and they pack some great features.
Intel Sandy Bridge processors will finally bring CPU and GPU together in one chip and will let many mainstream games to be played without the need of an external high-end graphics card. However, to play those high-end games, like Crysis Warhead, Star Wars Old Republic, Fall Out New Vegas, Call of Duty Black-ops, we still need those graphics cards from either Nvidia or AMD.
But there is a good… no… great news! Intel Sandy Bridge processor and the motherboard will allow us to use Nvidia’s and AMD’s graphics card in combination, making the final output ultimate.
Intel Sandy Bridge processor are now on (released on 9th Jan 2011) and in few days, we'll see many tech websites and blog putting up their respective views and reviews over the matter.
As for Crysis 2, it will be released on 22 March 2011 and things can't be more interesting. Crysis 2 will be the first game in Crysis series to let us actually battle in a city rather than in forest. I know it was fun and all that, but we needed a little break from that.
Also, creating battles in a city is far more challenging than battles in forests and personally, I only care about the fun we are going to have while hiding behind a building or street and killing stealthily those freaking aliens!!
You see, I have Nvidia GTX+ 9800 1 GB and it performs great, but in front of latest high-end graphics card, it fails! However, if I have Intel Sandy Bridge processor in future (and I am definitely going to get one), then I’ll be able to use Nvidia GTX+ 9800 with an adequate AMD graphics card. Be it anyone, it depends on what I’ll be able to afford when the time comes.
In any case, I will not be in the position where I have to ditch Nvidia’s graphics card. I am just wondering if they will be totally compatible or when the time comes and I’ll be able to hook them up, both them would just crash on me. I certainly don’t want that to happen.
Let’s assume that we will be able to connect two graphics card of different model from any manufacturer, (AMD or Nvidia), the performance will be mind blowing.
Nvidia is great in delivering Physx and AMD delivers some fine FPS as a total. Nvidia keeps it cool and AMD might be able to handle the card when I am not using it (means silent operation with lowest power consumption).
There are many other things that might or might not improve. But I wish the positive! Many of us have to sell their cards just to get rid of them and buy a new one. The problem is, who wants an old graphics card when they can buy a better one for a significantly low price (may be just a little higher than what we offer them) and seriously better performance.
You have to agree with me on this. If the rumors are true and we will be able to do combo graphics card thing, then all games will be fun to play. No lags, stuttering or loss of frames, boy am I excited! Let’s hope for the best.
